Distinctive Breaks, that all-credible record label, returns with another
delightful selection of electronic-edged breakbeats and dirty nu skool anthems
for those whoÆve been so satisfied with the previous editions in the series.
The last episode, æY3K: Soundtrack To The FutureÆ, was superb in every sense of
the word. Hyper delivered a compilation that had quality written all over it -
it was tough, but incredibly enjoyable and left most breakbeat fans gagging for
another edition. Now breaks guru Tayo returns with another sublime edition of
this cool series.
Tayo opens up the set with true gem - Beber and Tamra's 'Travellin' On'incorporates
great vocals with fantastically produced sounds that are fuelled with energy. This
sensational opener is followed with yet another fine production from the man Bushwacka!
Then, more eclectic electronic breaks work their way into set, with cuts from the likes
of Adam Freeland, Stanton Warriors, Rennie Pilgrim, Blim and Meat Katie driving the
sound into much darker territory. As if out on a mission to prove the sound of
electro is very much alive, Tayo slams even more goodness into this already classy
set. PMT, the Plump DJs, Scratch D & H-Bomb and Tayo & Precision Cuts are on
the line-up, topping off this fine breakbeat compilation with even more top quality
electronics.
Dirty bass, heavy duty industrial drums and acidic synth layers are the main sound
on the agenda and apart from the occasional pause, they fly at you fast furious as
Tayo layers the set track by track to create a mix which, as much as itÆs good for
home listening, belongs in a dirty basement with an extra loud sound system. It
seems that Distinctive Breaks is one label that can't be faulted. ItÆs provided us
with some incredibly cool releases - Hybrid, Tyrant and the Y2K, Y3K and now the
fantastic Y4K. 'Y4K: Further Still' is a high-octane breakbeat compilation from one
of the labels that does it best, and is essential for those who seek originality
and quality in their purchases.
