release notes:
Brought together through the power of social media and a decommissioned
pharmacy turned rehearsal space, Italian band New Sun set about
developing a sound not necessarily bound by genre restrictions. The
members possess seasoning in previous death, black, thrash, folk and nu
metal to even glam and groove bands - so it makes sense on Hanged's Fate,
the group's debut album, to expect a wide array of textures thrown into
this sonic platform. As a result, this six-song effort contains a
veritable kitchen sink approach with loads of intense grooves, heavy
vocals, and this progressive nature amidst the decades of influences at
play.
Thick rhythms sit in this staccato-oriented mold a la classic Machine
Head, Trivium, and Lamb of God - yet often the swift transitions allow
the musicianship to elevate the proceedings into death, blackened, and
progressive waters. Bassist Mattia 'Basserker' Zanella comfortably
garners worthy sequences of moody highlight status - be it in the
beginning instrumental measure of the epic eight-minute plus "New Sun" or
more progressive Tool/Iron Maiden-like low-end lines throughout closer
"Drag Me Down". Stunted riffs mirror the chaotic vocals of Marco Munari
within "Higher God" - a transformative track where its melodic death /
groove musical components blossom with tremolo adornments and a
galloping, tempo shift-oriented nature that should get followers
bouncing. A surprising comfort level exists between these musicians right
from the start - where they know when to let certain parts breathe and
lock into others for this unified cohesion which explodes upon impact,
even in the gang-like vocal spirit penetrating "Create My Empire" a la
Gojira or classic Slipknot. Exploring the human condition and going
through struggles to come out stronger in rebirth is a welcoming theme
for these lyrics sure to resonate with all listeners.
New Sun comes out swinging in a potent manner for Hanged's Fate. It's
equally heavy, progressively forward thinking, while remembering to throw
down a bevy of musical hooks designed for maximum headbanging. A fine
start with a group who will get decent recognition if given the
opportunity to play in front of the right crowds for bigger exposure.
