It had become quiet in the meantime around Thorn.Eleven. But they are
back. Fresh, unconsumed and full of energy, the Heidelberg band is back
and presents itself as if a load had fallen off. Almost it looks like
they have regained the untamed power of newcomers. Somehow we got back
to where we started, says singer David Becker, bringing the development
of the combo to the point. There is no doubt - a circle has closed for
Thorn.Eleven. This is why the title of the current album fits
perfectly: Circles. The band was founded in 1998 and subsequently made
a name in the scene with the self-produced inside album (1998) very
quickly; after the release of the self-titled label debut (2001) on SPV
and the successor A Different View (2004) also an extremely remarkable
acquaintance in the wider public. thethethethethegra. With Circles is
arguably the most authentic album Thorn.Eleven have ever recorded. The
path led the band back to the harder climes. Even the melodies have a
slightly gloomier coat in part, reflecting the shortcomings the band
had to survive. However, this slightly different sentiment transported
in Circles compared to the previous albums in no way represents a break
to what Thorn.Eleven are known for. So on the new album there are
twelve sound beads, which are usually somewhere in the intersection of
guitar-heavy grunge, metal and simple rock move far away from the nu-
metal drawer, into the Thorn.Eleven for whatever reasons are inserted
in all regularity and where the musicians again prove their affinity
for catchy melodies. Variable vocals, hard and memorable guitar riffs,
driving drum beats with skillful breaks and a powerful bass combine to
create a harmonious overall picture in a good three-quarter of an hour
playtime, which does not detract from the refreshing wilderness and
varied grooves that have always been the special feature of the
Thorn.Eleven songs. What is certain is that Thorn.Eleven have laid out
a highly interesting makeshift with Circles with the additions of
gloomy heavyness, a little melancholy, liberating anger and playful
informality that describes the end of an old and the beginning of a new
chapter alike. The circle has closed and therefore the time is ripe for
a new beginning.
