NOW renowned as the Mary Shelley of contemporary music for
his caustic wit and creepy imagination, Isaac Brock has
generally resisted the urge to dally with the mainstream
charts.
And it's a shame, because Dashboard - absolutely dripping
in Johnny Marr's Smiths-style jingly guitar - is a
complete pop masterpiece.
Vocally somewhere between Talking Heads' David Byrne and
Fred Schneider from The B-52's, Brock spits out a series
of typically perverse couplets: "You told me about
nowhere/Well it sounds like someplace I'd like to go," he
barks, before quipping, "The dashboard melted but we still
have the radio", as strings and excitable trumpets kick
the bar up higher and higher.
Witty, wild and wistful. What a tune.
