sounds of a thunderstorm: bass, hail & rain; dancing, twitching
bodies everywhere one looked. trembling soil and heat building up.
those well two thousand fans could not get enough and received so
much, there was a longer set than originally planned with playful
and joyful musicians around the very in-the-mood tricky. the
audience was thankful and moved by the euphoric tendency.
adrian "tricky" thaws captured this essentially not-easily
conquered viennese public from the beginning; although he sang at
first with his back to the public. that could have a simple reason
because tricky, who is no jazz singer, finally played in the
context of the jazz celebration vienna, as inspired by miles davis
who used to sing with his back to white audiences at the beginning
of concerts. so much about crude theories.
back in his own skin again. "what i make is not hip-hop, not rock,
not garage and not jungle - i do not sound like somebody else. you
love it or hate it", tells tricky over his new album "blowback". an
album, of which its fans waited already for a long time, in order
to be able to love it now even more. the new songs were located
naturally in the focal point of the concert, and the public
celebrated the songs like old acquaintances. the new material is to
some extent commercial and obliging for tricky's conditions.
experimental sounds were used in favor of melodies and to a large
extent in the background. "my life's changed for the better. the
paranoia has gone", says tricky, as he speaks about the present.
some of the new songs one hears on this album, primarily the new
masterpiece: "evolution revolution love", the current single, was
not to be missing from the concert and came along in an expanded
fulminating version, which offered in comparison to the
studio-recording a lot more attractions. the good piece was plumbed
in the best way and praised.
after a well two hours the war has passed. the bass thunderstorm
gone from the sofiensΣlen sauna. sweat-pulsating bodies take away
and acknowledged by the sound that in their opinion tricky is
further a great musician of this decade.
