▓ [ about this release ] ▓
░ ░
Buy CDs! (Specially shit like this)
It's a pleasure and an honor to bring to you Portishead's
live album recorded in Roseland New York City. If you
haven't heard it before, enjoy. (Do you live in a hole?)
And if you have, I'm sure you'll enjoy it once again. This
album is the sheeeit...
Though Portishead have only two albums' worth of material,
if there was ever a band needing a live album, it is them.
The sound and substance of their compositions are utterly
spellbinding, and live, they equal, if not sometimes
surpass, their studio-crafted counterparts. Most of this
album is drawn from a special show in New York in July 1997
which featured a 30-piece string section and 5-horn
accompaniment. (Amazingly, this recording is better than the
actual event.) Articulating sampled melodies and breaks, the
bigger band sires a beautifully fleshed-out sound, as on
first- album favorites like "Mysterons" and "Glory Box."
Vocalist Beth Gibbons is compelling throughout, especially
on a tremendous version of "Sour Times," reinterpreted in
aggressive rock fashion that leaves her wailing majestically
like a reborn Joan Baez. Songs from the group's second album
unfortunately don't get such a treatment, but as should be
expected, this is positively haunting.

▓ [ about us ] ▓
▒ iRO is an internal release group, which means we ▒
░ release outside of the regular mp3 scene. We do this ░
purely for the public, so you can hear that hard-to-
░ find album, that release you could never find the ░
scene rip of, and the actual retails of albums at
proper quality standards so you can decide whether
you really want to buy them or not; all without
asking for anything in return.
Also, unlike our predecessors, iRO gives back first
to the people who do all the work, the rippers. With
this thought at heart, all members have an equal say
in all group decisions and are welcome in all group
channels. Equality, quality and democracy, values
all good groups should share.
We are currently looking for fast ftps to serve as
pubs and member sites, as well as xdcc shell
providers. If you can help out by providing one of
these to this noble cause please come visit us in
#iRO on EFNET and leave a message with a member.
