With The Scatonomicon, Upper Decker decided to fully immerse themselves
in scatomancy. This magic, based on the energy released by the scent of
excrement and manipulated for centuries by scholars of the brown art, was
already explored in the previous album, Family Dinner.
Family Dinner was based on extraterrestrial manipulation, but scatomancy
was already present in the tracks "Simon the Toilet Beast," "Kevin," and
"Henri De Chissian."
With this new album, Upper Decker develops the concept of scatomancy
around the Scatonomicon, a warm and odorous book which allows, through
the reading of its cursed texts, to open portals to a parallel world
where pestilential miasmas and fecal matter shape a noxious and stripped
landscape populated by creatures as strange as they are abominable, such
as the ants with big biceps, the Gérards or the Wartcocks.
The cover represents this absolute chaos where each title is illustrated,
but we can also observe human scatomantic characters such as Bastion
Booger (wrestler of the WWF) or GG Allin, symbols in the glory of brown
magic or characters from pop culture (Bad Milo, The Monkey Ghoulie, The
Golgothan, Monsturd) having affinities with fecal magic. We can also see
tributes to icons of metal in scatomantic version (Benediction,
Hellhammer, Massacra, Motorhead, Cannibal Corpse, Anal Cunt).
The Scatonomicon succeeds in mixing multiple influences (old school,
grind, thrash, brutal, crossover, slam) to shape a death metal with
multiple breaks, changes of tempos and atmospheres. A new style is being
born, Scatomantic Death Metal!
