partly recorded at dutch electronic music hub, steim, this new cd
on a mille plateaux side label is definitely more stark and somber
than their previous releases. the first 2 tracks are very obviously
computer-made, full of looped and cut tiny snippets of sound. the
reference point moves slightly closer to ikeda than vaino on this
release - ikeda did remix one of their tracks after all. this is
all very carefully composed and arranged - structural in a manner
similar to ikeda's most sober work, but with a little bit of st's
surreal sense of the absurd. the cd title is on par with their
previous odd take on life, as are the track titles: "mostly
midrange vocals", "plenty loud, thank you", and "some people just
want to take out the old guitar". most of the tracks are delicately
formed from a glitch, a hiss, a bass tone, or a crackling sound
snippet sequenced and looped into simple repeating patterns mixed
in with some distant rumbles. the 7 minute long track 6 is a
twitchy loop which drops midway into total silence - the loop
emerges louder and enveloped by a rich bass-heavy hum, and gasping
breathy sounds in the background. the reliance on digital
accidents, so prevalent in other mp product is almost completely
     absent in this work.
