A wonderful album by one of the last great vocal
groups to come out of Chicago -- a harmony quintet to
rival the greatness of any the east coast had to
offer! Although recorded for the smoother-sounding
Chi-Soul label, the album's got an approach that's
quite similar to some of the best east coast indie
work of the same period -- a spare, open quality on
the heartbreaking ballads, mixed with a fuller, more
dynamic range on the uptempo groovers! The group's
harmonies are tremendous -- really well-crafted and
personal, and never falling into any sort of cliche.
Carl Davis produced, and kicks off the album with the
strong groover "Windy City Theme" -- done here in a
vocal version that's as perfect an anthem to Chicago
as we could ever hope for!
