Release Notes:
Ever a band to do things a bit differently, or as
Keith Tenniswood recently proclaimed 'shoot
ourselves in the foot', Two Lone Swordsmen issue the
second chapter to their 'Wrong Meeting' opus as a CD
and vinyl release accompaniment to the limited vinyl
box set of æWrong MeetingÆ part 1. Again, featuring
nine brand new tracks this second installment
completes the more obvious rockabilly and garage
punk overtones of chapter one with a backdrop of
electric guitars, punk-funk, reggae, dub and
electronics as Andrew's lyrics dig into depths of
even more personal emotion. If part one is at times
the hoe down party call to arms then part two has a
more subdued and reflective mood with Andrew
Weatherall's lyrics shining like a torch through the
darkness. As much an album in itself æWrong Meeting
Part 2' also closes the book on this new sonic
adventure from the good reverends of musical
alchemy. The Rotters return is complete.
ôGo to the past, but look to the future, don't get
bogged down in the present. It's about distilling
the essence, be it from the 50s or the present day,ö
says Weatherall. If 'Wrong Meeting' wears its
influences on its sleeve while sounding utterly
contemporary then 'Wrong Meeting 2' is a more
elliptical beast, harder to pin down from its myriad
components. Second track, 'Shack 54' is the only
instrumental, providing a thumping punk funk jam
workout whilst 'Hey Deborah Anne's knees-up revelry
masks the barbed vitriol sucker punch of a lover
burned and bruised. 'The Ghosts of Dragstrip Hollow'
finds Andrew firing off a warning shot, 'don't
tailgate, don't follow' as his motley crew of
assorted misfits carve their way towards eternal
damnation through a muted brass section fanfare with
the low slung fuzz-dub groove of 'Born Bad / Born
Beautiful' continuing their celebration of a life on
the wrong side of the tracks. The opening 'Mountain
Man' finds Weatherall and Co. waiting for 'the man'
when dug in at the Swordsmen's hideout whilst
'Glories Yesterday' highlights the Swordsmen's keen
sense for nostalgic electronic melody that was used
to stunning effect on Primal Scream's 'Autobahn 66'.
'Blue Flame' is the most obviously garage punk and
psychobilly influenced track and connects to the
likes of 'No Girl In My Plan' and 'Puritan Fist'
from album one whilst 'In The Shadow of a Dark Heart
SunÆ sees a mournful femme fatale vox ghost AndrewÆs
cathartic reprise. The closing 'Lose Control of
Yourself' takes a down tempo twist through subtle
and emotion fuelled melody as Keith Tenniswood
steers the Swordsmen back towards more familiar
electronic terrain as Weatherall's voice guides us
back to the beginning of the Swordsmen sound. The
circle is complete.
Two Lone Swordsmen's "Wrong Meeting Part 2" is set
for release June 18th on Rotters Golf Club.
