Mark Blissenden and Andrew Burdall met at Spiral Groove Records in
Hull where Bliss worked. Both were keen on Deep House music, Bliss
being a DJ with the Nottingham based DIY collective. At that time
Burdy was a student who had been involved with the local indie rock
scene, or what there was of it.

They started to write music together in 1994 but it was another
year before their relationship with the Pork label started when
they met Porky at the legendary club, The Room, in Hull in 1995. At
the time they were recording with a view to releasing a 12" but
Porky and Steve Cobby suggested that they should follow it through
to become an album. Thus in August 1996, "10,000 Years Beneath the
Street" became their debut album. Ever prolific they released their
second and third albums "Bridging Two Worlds" and "One Two Freakà"
in 1997 with "Another Day at the Orifice" appearing in 1998. A year
on and "Swimming" marked their fifth release. Featuring the liquid
jazz guitar of Tom Harland the album has been well received by both
the public and the press. Spurred on by this reaction Baby Mammoth
are putting the finishing touches to their sixth album, Motion
Without Pain, due for release sometime in Autumn '99.

Andrew Burdall says "We work in a very natural way. Basically we
turn up, one of us with an idea or inspiration and see where the
original idea takes us. Often a long way from our starting point.
Wherever possible we try to write as originally as we can and we
are beginning to add more and more live elements as we continue to
develop and learn. It would be physically impossible for us to stop
writing and any period of inactivity on the music front leads to
irritation and a need for musical therapy"

"For the future we are hoping to expand our remix work, to develop
a new and different second string project and take the Baby Mammoth
experience Live as a four piece incorporating Tom Harland on guitar
     and Andy Dimmack on drums."

Quote: "Two white, no sugar". --pork.co.uk
