To sum up Angel Alanis's suprising "Cage Me In" (features vocals by long time
jazz / opera singer, renee) would be next to impossible, to call it
hook-heavy electro-house wouldn't be enough. This is a song of passion, heart
and character. This monumental recording from Angel announces a paradigm
shift in his sound, its spiralling synth riffs reaching out to both the most
stentorian minimal and the most epic of 80's pop music. This material marks a
new beginning for Angel and one not to be taken lightly, for it maintains
it's arty-but-populist feeling but with massive crossover potential. This
unexpected ubiquity, will follow in a cult like trend one can only compare to
luminaries like Metro Area with their sensational 80's italo disco funk which
sparked a revolution in dance culture. With each listen this increasingly
resembles the beauty of Metro Area but with a twist of Kompakt techno-pop
with an unselfconscious grace that shimmers in it's echanting vocal melodies.
There may be passion and inventive song writing but this is still a record
with state of the art grooves and will still find appeal to sweaty
dancefloors and the close intimacy of headphones. Indeed, while some grooves
are more physical than others, everything about "Cage Me In" seems
deliberately designed to subvert the usual inverse relationship between a
dance record's club-readiness and home-friendliness. With the bass-heavy
production found in Sebastien Leger's sensational remix (which sebastien
himself credits as being his best work to date) begs to be showcased over
huge speakers in a rammed warehouse. This new side of Angel is rather
unexpected, with it's emotive qualities and movements that entrance the
listener and leave them craving more. This release will lay claim to your
heart and your tear-ducts, rather than seduce with ostentatious artistry,
