Deviated deliver 24 minutes of concentrated brutal death metal on The
Altar of Absence, an eight-track release issued by New Standard Elite.
Built around guitarist/bassist Tomonori Inahara, vocalist Wasumit 'Aon'
Wongwai and drummer Pratchaya Phadungthin, Deviated is an international
collaboration connecting the Japanese and Thai brutal death metal
undergrounds. The musicians bring experience from groups including
Despoilment, Strangulation, Dismal Dissonancy, Ecchymosis, Intricated and
Pathological Sadism.
The Altar of Absence operates within the uncompromising aesthetic
associated with New Standard Elite, concentrating on dense riffing,
guttural vocals, abrupt rhythmic changes and technically demanding
percussion. The compact running time keeps the material focused, with
songs generally around the three-minute mark rather than expanding the
band's ideas into lengthy arrangements.
The titles establish an appropriately bleak and otherworldly atmosphere.
