Flash Atkins arrives in time for summer with an EP of cosmic Balearic
disco. 'Love is a Cosmic Phenomenon' is a tribute to the amazing
textile artist and designer Lou Gardiner who died in 2023. Lou, a
friend of thirty five years was a true one-off and the embodiment of
positivity who broke new ground with her incredible creativity and
individuality. She was also the most fun at any party.
The title track (named after one of her pieces) is a dreamy, soulful
trip into the heart of the Mediterranean. Gorgeous vocals, rhodes,
percussion, guitar, sax, and trippy arps nod to the 70s and 80s, but
the sound is very much now. Coming to a sunset near you.
Electric Blossom is a deep, druggy nu-disco chugger that weaves a
narcotic spell. A filtered sample brings the groove with kaleidoscopic
atmospherics, dub and delay, the acid bass drops and all bets are off.
The Billy Fox Dub strips things back and takes it subterranean with
analogue 5th stabs, woozy subs and a killer 303 line. A late night
trippy head mangler that will sound immense on a big rig.
Finally, Dawn at Oak Farm lets the music and vocals float ever upwards.
