Take 9, the new project of Thodoris Triantafillou, Bouzidi and
Mercury, closes the summer vibes with the brilliant Believe.
The Athens-based trio delivers an impeccable blend of each member's
trademark musical vision. Between them sit two decades of releases
on labels such as Bedrock, Connaisseur, Blue Shadow, Days Like
Nights, and a long-standing home at Urge To Dance.
Believe is an emotional and energising track packed with a thick
bass-line, an infectiously danceable groove, carefully layered
percussion and tantalising, almost euphoric synths. A magnetic vocal
sits at the centre of it all, pulling everything around it into
orbit. A slick break, a held breath, then a restrained but driving
drop turn Believe into a peak-time delight.
Nothing here is oversized. The impact comes from arrangement and
restraint by three producers who know exactly when not to add
another layer.
