Probably named after the mode of transport that has seen
the various members shuttled around the UK's motorway
system over the years, the Transit Kings is made up of a
stellar cast-list that includes Alex Paterson (The Orb:
sonics, samplers, sequencers), Jimmy Cauty (KLF), Guy
Pratt (post-Waters Pink Floyd bassist: bass, guitars,
percussion, Indian flute, vocals) and Dom Beken (Orb
programmer/producer: programming, keys, drums and
percussion, bass, guitars, harmonica, shouting). Crikey!
Having met up in 2001 at gunpoint (the studio built by
Guy and Dom at LondonÆs Townhouse rather than the
weapon...), the collective set about getting some noise
layed down - roping in the likes of Johnny Marr and Simon
Day (The Fast Show) as they passed by and created a
proper din in the process. Bringing together a slew of
styles and that collide in joyous harmony, tracks like
'The West End Of A Duck Going East' and 'Wagon Wheels'
grab fistfuls of electro, rock, ambient and indie - then
fuse them into the kind of orchestral pomp that is as
addictive as it is loud.
