ACOUSTIC SHARDS, recorded during the same period as the Young Buckethead DVDs
(early 90's, when young BUCKETHEAD was lead guitarist for the Deli Creeps),
showcases a gentler but equally exhilarating side of our hero. As producer Jas
Obrecht explains, 'Traditionally, the truest test of a musician is how he plays
unaccompanied, and on this record Buckethead is unsurpassed. The music was
recorded in real time, without overdubs or effects devices' just Buckethead in a
living room, playing a borrowed acoustic Guild guitar. Portions of Acoustic
Shards sound like Django Reinhardt meets Ornette Coleman meets young Eddie Van
Halen meets, well, that which is uniquely and lovably Buckethead. Other tracks
are soothing enough for the Starbucks crowd. Much of it was composed on the
spot, and measure for measure, this CD has some of the most exhilarating guitar
music on record.
