Release Notes:

While hip kids will flit from straw-hat-tramp-chic
to painting themselves day-glo and sticking in a bit
of badass MC-ing, the old guard of 'post rock' will
keep on plugging away.

There will always be some complex souls twiddling
about with telecaster guitars, FX pedals and
delicate ambiences before unleashing a twenty minute
section of searing noise. The Strange Death of
Liberal England are a band carrying this banner
pretty well and all. Debut album 'Forward March!'
could even act as a rally cry to keep on messing
about with a bit of knob twiddling and ridiculously
long song titles.

They've certainly taken a long 'un on their
plus-five-minuter 'Summer Gave Us Sweets But Autumn
Wrought Division' with an eerie backing giving way
to a strong vocal line.

Not that they're giving in all the way to
instrumentals. 'God Damn Broke and Broken Hearted'
is angry vocalisation with a folky touch that sounds
more akin to The Decemberists than Explosions in the
Sky. Here, the shouts are diffused by ghostly
harmonising and clunky instrumentation.

And there are even more rally cries and harmonising
on 'I Saw Evil'. A militant drum beat and lengthy
notes are the perfect lead in to 'An Old Fashioned
War''s acoustic protest. Bumbling along with more
crazily clipped vocals itÆs far more successful than
the half hippy half rock noise of [b]Modern Folk
Song/b].

Post rock will never die. But we didnÆt say it
doesnÆt change. The Strange Death of Liberal England
have gone and proved that. 'March On' is something
geekily familiar but also excitingly new.
