Selville is happy to introduce DeepSlave M, all the way from Coligny
in North West, with his debut EP Giant Man, a very special Minimal
Dub House project packed with all the right South African Dub House
ingredients, the textures, shakers, atmospheric layers and, of
course, those throbbing, bouncing basslines that move you into
another universe. It's like riding a Zola Bud or Siyaya from the
Kasi to Mars, sitting in the back seat with subwoofers underneath
you, while the bass carries the whole journey. DeepSlaveM is, quite
literally, a slave to deep house, and you can hear it in the
intentionality of his production and the care put into every groove.
"Respect U" is the perfect take-off point, slowly pulling you into
its world and giving you plenty to discover as it develops. There
are little pieces of ear candy tucked into the background that keep
the track interesting without taking away from its hypnotic
simplicity, exactly the kind of detail that allows a seven-minute
track to hold your attention. Then comes "Find", which feels like
landing on another planet. It's spacious, relaxed and deeply
atmospheric, letting the dub elements breathe while keeping the
groove firmly in place.
Closing things off with "Any1 Else" feels like the journey back to
Earth. There's no rush to get there either; DeepSlave M understands
that Dub House is about the ride as much as the destination. Giant
Man is a project for long drives, late nights and proper sound
systems, music that gives the bass room to breathe while rewarding
you for listening a little closer. This is Dub House, and DeepSlaveM
clearly knows how to take you somewhere with it.
