Like many of the artists we have been working with here at
Alien8 Recordings, Loren MazzaCane Connors is a rather
prolific musician. Over the last twenty or so years this
gifted guitar player has been documented, upwards of 40
recordings. While he has always maintained a rather regular
profile, it seems lately he is quite possibly at the apex of
his career.
In Twilight is made up of two parts. In Twilight Part One
features Connors solo, recorded live in Olympia, Washington.
The opening track begins with indecipherable silence,
eventually building both texture and volume, occasionally
swelling up revealing beautiful guitar chords. In Twilight
Part Two displays the work of the recent pairing of LMC and
bass player Matthew Heyner of the No Neck Blues Band. The duo
formed under the suggestion of Thurston Moore and the results
were recorded live at the Cooler in New York City 9/21/98.
While this track hovers over the same ground as the previous
one, the bass really adds quite a lot in terms of texture and
nuance to give it a very different feel.
The first half of the cd gives further exploration into very
quiet areaÆs of Connors sound, reminiscent of the sparser
moments of Evangeline and The Bridge. Throughout In Twilight,
Loren MazzaCane Connors works with very subtle sounds and
showcases his great ability to allow resonance and distortion
to take shape. Listening to this recording, especially part
two, comparisons could be drawn to Keiji HainoÆs psychedelic
trio Fushitsusha Considering that the two have already
released two collaborations, this may come as no surprise.
In Twilight is handsomely packaged in a jewel case with
textured card stock paper with silver ink.
