When Chicago's Warehouse club relocated in 1983 to a tunnel
underneath a carpark, the Music Box was born, and the DJ drafted
into replace Frankie Knuckles was the then-unknown Ron Hardy. What
followed is now the stuff of clubland legend, yet very little of
what actually went on the sounsdsystem in the dark of the Music Box
is really known to the masses. The Members Only Historical Archives
series aims to document some of the very deepest underground tunes
of that time, some reproduced in their original form, some
re-edited for the demands of todays dancefloor, and all drawn from
a pool of unfathomably rare test-pressings, limited editions and
tape reels which will remain a closely guarded secret.. But you can
take it as read that the sources are first rate, and the sounds are
as revolutionary now as 20 years ago when they first inspired
budding producers like Derrick May, Marshall Jefferson and Jamie
Principal. 'Check Out Cha Mind' is pressed up from a looped Tramps
sample that DJ rush played on tape as a staple of his sets.
