█ █▓░█ AqualungÆs 2002 breakthrough single æStrange and █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ BeautifulÆ hit a nerve with the British public. The █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ singleÆs beautifully crafted piano lines struck a █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ chord with many, and MattÆs delicate voice suited the █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ songÆs melancholic nature perfectly. It became a █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ staple on national radio and reached number seven in █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ the UK charts, also helping AqualungÆs eponymous █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ debut album become a hit too (not bad considering it █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ was recorded entirely in MattÆs hallway!) █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ While Aqualung tinkered with subtle piano songs, its █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ follow-up (2003Æs Still Life) was a much more █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ band-led affair. But it was the 2004 US release of █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ Strange and Beautiful, an album combining the best █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ songs from Still Life and Aqualung, that really took █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ MattÆs career to another level. The album became so █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ popular that heÆs been touring it for the best part █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ of two years. █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ It was this extended jaunt around America that saw █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ the creative birth of Memory Man. With a guest █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ appearance from Blue Nile singer Paul Buchanan, and a █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ fuller, more epic sound, the album shows a new depth █░▓█ █
█ █▓░█ to MattÆs songwriting. ItÆs his most accomplished █░▓█ █
