Uber obscure old school from the Fabulous 3 MCs -- intended for the
Bronx-based Tap label in 1981 and only now seeing official release
-- thanks to the deep, deep digging Numero Group! We're admittedly
stumped on the Fabulous 3's history, and even the individual names
of the rappers -- but we can tell you that "Rub A Dub Dub" is a
straight up sublime 8 minutes of post disco delight -- as good, or
better than many of the more revered names of the early days of the
game! The backdrop of beats and bass underneath the exuberant MCs
is of benchmark quality -- but what really makes this one special
is some really sweet washes of synth and keyboards the come in and
out, and the incidental background elements in the mix. Hand claps,
a schoolyard whistle, party crowd participation -- there's a lot
stuff going on here that pushes it well above and beyond the
typical first school jam! A totally wonderful discovery! (Limited
edition of 1000 copies.)
