│release notes.
In an effort to restore and resurrect the work of the underground
dance ancestors, Still Music has created the Past Due project. A
series of carefully mastered, copiously documented, gorgeously
packaged, and completely legitimate issues of crucial cuts from the
deepest caverns of vinyl tombs and the even deeper wells of
unissued tapes.
Because we also know that for many of our mothers and fathers,
respect is not enough. Serious attention paid is long Past Due.
Past Due Press Release:
Greyship was a mid-1970s Westerville rock band who hired a
temporary vocalist named Davis. After billing themselves as
Greyship & Davis, it simply made more sense to call themselves
Greyship Davis. After the singer and band parted ways, they kept
the name, only adjusting Davis to read Daviz. As the band matured,
they scrapped their format of Zeppelin and Sabbath covers for a
more creative approach. Influenced by groups like Mothers Finest,
Funkadelic, and Earth, Wind, & Fire, they moved into a more
funk-rock mode by 1977. Johnny Stevenson recruited the members of a
local vocal group who could also play instruments to fill out the
experiment.
Greyship Daviz never became known as recording artists, but as live
performers they tore up the entire nation. Their tours were the
stuff of myth and legend. They had a self-contained operation that
included special effects on stage, full make-up, outrageous
costumes (their tailor traveled with them), top-line lighting,
high-test sound, and a full-size bus converted literally into a
gray spacecraft. They only went by the stage monikers that linked
them as an outlandish family unit. Their only studio recordings
failed to make an impact for two reasons. They were released after
their prime, and they could never live up to the phenomenon of the
live act, but for underground disco it is at the highest level.
Well, Past Due got really lucky on this one! We actually managed to
get the master tapes of the full Greyship Daviz 12" from which
"Traffic (Cheek To Cheek Bumper To Bumper)" is the title track.
So in this case we got you some killer remixes from Markus Enochson
and our own boy Patchworks.
Markus Enochson (Sonar Kollektiv, MAW) came strong on this one and
drops 2 future disco classics: the Traffic Jam Remixes.
A2 is an amazing spaced out sci fi disco mix, in between a remix
and a reedit, that dives deeply in the post disco DFA sound.. get
ready!s
B1 is Markus Enochson at his best, he basically rewrote the entire
song and turned it into a giant dancefloor monster circa 1980. This
one is already making the rounds and is huge with the likes of MR
Scruff, Unabombers, Jazzanova and was a serious hit at the
Jazzanova & Bugz party in Miami last March!
B2 sees Still Music's fave, Patchworks carrying his remix duties
to perfection. Patchworks mix is a soulful boogie down joint that
will ravish all the fans of the Mr President's tunes on Favorite.
