▒▓██▓ Created over the last two years, the Shaggy Black ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ project marks the collaboration of Schematic artists ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ Nick Forte and Dino Felipe, whose broken sample work ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ as Old Bombs is highly indicative of the style of ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ experimental sound found here. There is a definite ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ undercurrent of exploration and fun on these ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ soundscapes: Felipe's violent, orthogonal tape cuts ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ and loops work hand in hand with Forte's distorted, ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ Fennesz-like guitar washes to a conceptually cohesive ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ end. ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ Each brings his uniquely odd aesthetic to the table, ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ and nowhere is this more apparent than on "Pick Yer ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ Poison," where Felipe scrapes his samples through the ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ digital equivalent of razor blades, juxtaposed with ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ Forte's dreary, moody string-based drone, or on the ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ dreamy "Anteater," which is broken, twinkling, and ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ bubbly all at the same time, rolling drums weaving an ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ ecstatic, electric psychedelic vision. "One Needle ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ Per Village" builds in a caustic, yet oddly pleasing ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ way, scraping together some guitar notes here, bongos ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ there, bleeps and bloops all around, until the piece ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ sizzles and burns out of commission. "Dander" plays ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ like a badly damaged radio scanner, Felipe's arrows ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ of fragmented sounds flying out in all directions, ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ while Forte scratches out tense, noise-filled echoes ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ on the wall-like closer "Violent Flag." ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ Shaggy Black is built from the purest essences of a ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ feeling -- destroying, rebuilding, layering, and ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ bleeding sounds dry. Felipe and Forte take care to ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ maximize the emotional dynamics between pure noise ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ and darker, grinding ambience, and have a compelling ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ set of power electronics on their hands. That the ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ compositions were created by way of slow, piecemeal ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ mail correspondence belies the illusion of effortless ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ cooperation, almost as if the players had needed only ░█▓▒
▒▓██▓ to spend a day or two in the studios to put this ░█▓▒
