Hailing from Montreal, AKIDO is an instrumental
electronic rock band formed in 2003.
AKIDO's acclaimed debut "PLAYTIME" was released in
2004 and received significant airplay across
Canadian college radios. The award-winning video for
the track ½Les Humains╗ featuring a sampled speech
by controversial filmmaker Pierre Falardeau was
exhibited at the Montreal Museum of Modern Arts. The
long-awaited follow-up is titled "BLINK" and it was
released independently in 2007 on AKIDO's own label
Nordique Records. On this new album, the music raves
without lapsing into out-of-control mayhem, and its
elegance is bolstered by the inclusion of Joyce
Vallus's silky vocals. Also distinguishing the music
is the fact that AKIDO composes songs, not tracks,
so that electronic pop pieces like "Cause Celebre,
for example, impress as studiously arranged and
sequenced wholes.
AKIDO the studio project of composer and
multi-instrumentist Kim Gaboury. The touring band is
lead by Kim on guitar, vocals and laptop, Joyce
Vallus on sampler and vocals, and a drummer and bass
player often completes the setup on stage. Frequent
collaborators are VJ Pillow and Mademoiselle on live
video projections.
