Metropolis was composed during 1968-9. It had been played in
various forms by bands ranging from 4 to 25 musicians. This
version for big-band was written with the assistance of an
Arts Council bursary and was first presented by the London
Jazz Centre Society at the Mermaid Theatre, London on May 18,

Sax). John Warren - (Baritone Sax). John Taylor - (Electric
Piano). Gary Boyle - (Guitar). Harry Miller - (Bass, Cello).
Chris Laurence - (Bass Guitar, Bass). Alan Jackson - (Drums).
John Marshall - (Drums). Norma Winstone - (Vocal). The
arrangements are a mixture of influences including Gil Evans,
Sun Ra and ( of course) Duke Ellington.
