Release Notes:

It's been five years since his last album (the
harrowing No Longer My Concern) and March 20th sees
Michael J. Sheehy return with the beautiful but
brutal Ghost On The Motorway. Arguably his finest
work to date, its songs tread the fine line between
the sacred and the profane with a tender vocal
presence that belies his often startling and
debauched lyrical storytelling. Drawing on his deep
appreciation and love of folk songs, blues, gospel
and country, Sheehy's songs deal with the darker
side of life while often managing to convey a wry
sense of humour.

Sheehy is one of music's best-kept secrets and a
treasure to those in the know. He released three
critically acclaimed solo albums (and three as front
man and guitarist for Dream City Film Club) through
the Beggars Banquet label before they parted company
in 2002. Invited on tour at the personal behest of
such luminaries as Kristin Hersh, Tindersticks, Ed
Harcourt, John Cale and Peter Murphy he has built up
a dedicated following over the years boosted by the
inclusion of his songs on the soundtracks of the art
house film Intimacy and the HBO drama series
Deadwood.

You can hear traces of greats like Elvis, Tom Waits,
Dr John, Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen pervading
throughout Ghost on the Motorway, a record full of
brooding intimacy and intoxicating atmosphere that
takes you on a journey through sin, salvation,
heaven and hell. Hallelujah!

"A work of commendable character and craft.. Michael
J Sheehy taps into a rich vein of emotional
brutality". The Independent

"Sheehy's blue bruised croon recalls Billy Fury
singing Shane MacGowen's lyrics over Nick Cave's
gentler moments". Time Out
