Swivel hails the coming of a new type of rock music experience
with a kinetic pulse that blurs the line between the electronic
and the organic. Called " one of the most unbelievable bands to
come around in a long time" by Whodaludaradio.com, this
Electro-punk duo have blazed a trail through the LA scene,
lighting up such classic LA haunts as the Viper room, the Pig and
Whistle, and the Rainbow room with their powerful harmonies and
unforgettable hooks.
Originally from Washington, DC, Swivel is fronted by Eddie Tyclus,
and Tai Heard, who trade lead vocals and share song writing
credit. They met during a high school talent show and have been
collaborating every since- despite the fact that they attended
different colleges. As Eddie was learning the ins and outs of film
making at the prestigious New York University, Tai was studying
music synthesis at the world-renowned Berklee College of music in
Boston. Through trading files, sending CDs and maintaining
constant phone contact, they were able to form their own unique
sound- though they were states apart.
While SwivelÆs songs have often been compared to Aerosmith,
Prince, and David Bowie, their production sensibilities are much
closer to that of Bjork, or the Outkast. Tai creates sonic
landscapes held together with throbbing bass and sizzling hi hats
but at the heart of it all is always the song. During the
recording of the band's first EP, "Landing," Tai realized that he
could better fuze the acoustic sounds of the guitars, bass, hand
drums, and vocals with the digital and analogue synths he was
using by creating a hybrid drum kit- the kick drum and the snare
were programed, but the toms and most of the cymbals were real!
Armed with ambition, talent, and luck, Swivel has already made an
impact on LA's local scene-and will make a much greater one in the
coming months. With two videos in the works, plans to organize an
west coast version of New York's Afro-punk festival in 2008, and a
full length album due out early next year, the future looks
brighter than ever for this unstoppable duo, and LA can look
forward to more of Swivel's infectious electro-punk vibes.
