A one-man guitar band, sounding like a whole orchestra. Just when you
thought that you had heard everything, Jarmo Saari Solu brings
electric guitar to the new millennium.
On his 'Solu' (2004) album Jarmo Saari chopped the sounds of his
guitar to atomic pieces, copying, pasting and processing them into new
guitar reality. Well, that's easy with the modern studio technology,
isn't it? But Saari does it all live, too, bringing his sound
modelling racks on stage and making a one-man guitar band sound like a
whole orchestra. On the new 'The Making Of LOVE' album Jarmo Saari
takes his concept one step further by delivering excellent
compositions and catchy grooves.
Master's degree in jazz composition hasn't stopped Saari carrying out
his musical vision in diverse environments, be it world jazz group
Zetaboo, the fusion giant XL or the chartbusting rock band Don Huonot,
which all were blessed with the talent of his. For years the veteran
of real-time sound processing has had an ideal practising Jarmo Saari
(1970-) Composer, guitarist ground with Reuna trio û a laboratory of
dub, jazz and electronica sounds in cahoots with drummer/DJ Teppo
MΣkynen and sound engineer T-Mu KorpipΣΣ.
Not that everything Saari does would involve only electric
instruments. With a team of top local musicians he has interpreted his
own arrangements of classic Finnish movie music as the Jarmo Saari
Filmtet. One of his biggest triumphs as a composer came when the Espoo
Big Band and percussionist Trilok Gurtu recorded his album-lenght
suite 'Neandertal Grooves' in 2000.
Jarmo Saari Solu's appearances include a gig at Norway's Molde Jazz
Festival and at Popkomm in Berlin. In May 2007 the one-man guitar
orchestra will perform two shows in Tokyo.
