     │ : : │
│ Sri Hari is a project from the great Ian Ion (more known from his work │
│ with Frank E as KoxBox and Saiko-Pod). I've only got this cd for about 3 │
│ days, but it has been spinning all since then, so I'll give it a shot, │
     │ it's not a very easy cd to review ;). │
│ To beginn with, this is a totally blissful journey with a high relaxing. │
│ It also got a lot of spiritual messages, mainly through all the voice- │
│ samples through the tracks. You can find them in every track, and they │
│ are about yoga (in the great jazzy "The Path of Yoga", about how it is │
│ to go to work every day and pay the rent "Jazz Maharaja"or simply just │
│ hindu-singers (mostly often spiritual songs or speeches. But it's much │
│ more then the hindu part on this cd, they all got (except the last one) │
│ these peaceful and veeeery relaxed totally beautiful and sunny │
│ (sometimes spacey) melodies and effects. Mostly often you have a rather │
│ slow beat in the tracks, or sometimes nice sunny (sometimes faster) │
│ drum'n'bass beats or some tribal drumming. It also got alot of funky and │
     │ groovy eighties/early ninethies synth-lines and beats, and sometimes a │
│ 303 jumps in for a short shift ;). The work he have done with the │
│ singers is very nice, and there is in all the tracks really beautiful │
│ parts of singers (the male-singer in "Radhe Govinda" is just great) or │
│ just relaxed atmospheric voices. The tracks shifts between being a │
│ beautiful tribute to life and moder earth and being totally groovy music │
│ with funky beats and synth-lines. Many tracks just gives me the feel of │
│ waking up on some sunny place, totally blissful. The production is │
│ ofcourse excellent and beautiful, and track 6 "Spread the Chanting" also │
│ Frank E is involved. At many times you can feel the funky and groovy │
│ feel that a lot of the Saiko-Pod and KoxBox (their album "The Great │
│ Unknown") tracks got, so Ian seems to be a big part in thoose projects, │
│ and he seems to be one of the best producers there is in the scene. The │
│ CD ends up with a praising song to hinduism, alot of sitars, some │
│ drumming and a male singers singing about Hare Krishna. It accelerates │
│ but then fades out and ends up the cd. │
│ All in all, excellent beautiful relaxation-music with a rare groove and │
│ alot of influences such as drum'n'bass/garage beats, house- and jazz- │
│ elements and alot of feel of the eightees. │
│ No bad tracks and Highly recommended! │
     │ │

     │ Ian Ion Biography │
     │ │
│ Ian Ion (born 19?? in ??) started early getting into music, playing │
│ guitar at first. At fifteen, in the middle of the punk and new wave, Ian │
│ got hold of a Korg synthesizer, started playing around and soon turned │
│ towards electronic music. In 1984 he formed the group Russia Heat (as │
│ Ian Maria) and released a very successful twelve inch. Meanwhile, Ian │
│ was doing training as recording and production at the first electronic │
│ music studio in Copenhagen. Another single followed, and in '87 Ian was │
│ approached by Rune B and Dick D'Press to form the group The Overlords │
│ that was to change the Danish music scene forever. │
│ With The Overlords, the threesome devised a very media and music │
│ conscious formula, mixing futuristic productions with hard hitting │
│ images. The music, a blend of rock and electronica, was presented to an │
│ unsuspecting audience on the Roskilde Festival's green stage in the │
│ summer of '88, coinciding with the release of The Overlords' first │
│ album, released by Mega Records. The band made headlines and gave a lot │
     │ of interviews. │
│ After a trip to Goa in 1988, Ian found a new forum for dance music. And │
│ after signing with front runner techno label, Antler/Subway in Belgium, │
│ The Overlords released the classic Sundown, that brought the band │
│ world-wide recognition. Suddenly, Ian found himself touted as a prodigy │
│ of electronic music and got the offer to work with many different artist │
│ including Blue Pearl, Billy Idol, Traci Lords, Sven Vath, Miro and Dr. │
│ Baker. Some of these collaborations brought Ian gold disks and chart │
│ positions all over the world. │
│ Meanwhile, Ian set up his own studio in central Copenhagen called The │
│ Grooveyard. Here he met psychedelic outfit Koxbox, who quickly started │
│ working with him to produce a very distinct sound that was instantly │
│ recognised on the underground scene. │
│ In 1993 Ian (by now known as Ian Ion) started working on what was to │
│ become the last Overlords album: "All The Naked People", for BMG │
│ sublabel Habana. While this brought a wider audience to their music the │
│ band felt the pressure from having too many decision makers involved in │
│ the marketing. After releasing the album and a couple of singles, it was │
│ decided that the success didn't match the effort involved. The band │
│ split up, leaving Ian free to concentrate on what he likes best: making │
│ and producing music and playing live without restraints. │
│ Soon after, in 1995, Ian started recording the new Koxbox album "Forever │
│ After" for Sven Vath's Harthouse label. This is by now a true classic on │
│ the psychedelic scene, a mixture of interesting music and pristine │
│ production. On the back of it's success, Koxbox did live shows all over │
│ the world incl. Europe, Asia and US. │
│ The same year Ian started working for the Roskilde Festival as sound │
│ producer for their electronic stage. Roskilde Festival is one of │
│ Europe's biggest festivals and Ian found himself intrigued when invited │
│ to come up with brand new ideas for presenting dance music live. What │
│ was came to follow is probably one of the most advanced sound and vision │
│ setups ever, paid for by 90.000 festival guest and by now quite an │
│ institution in Northern Europe, having presented an impressive roster of │
│ contemporary electronic music ranging from Leftfield, Orbital, Bjork and │
│ Underworld to obscure debutantes. │
│ In 1996 Koxbox signed with London-based Blueroom Released label and │
│ started working on their new album. Meanwhile, Ian did different │
│ projects for Virgin Records and others and formed a new power-unit with │
│ Koxbox member Frank E: Psychopod, signed to another London label, T.I.P. │
     │ Records. │
│ The same year Ian, who always been interested in the ethereal, started │
│ working on the spiritual music project Sri Hari. A welfare project where │
│ the proceeds of the 250,000 copies sold went to building an alternative │
     │ city outside Calcutta. │
│ 1997/98 saw more diverse projects, the release of the Koxbox album │
│ "Dragon Tales", music for the Earth Dance project, new Psychopod singles │
│ and the ongoing work for Roskilde Festival. At the same time Ian started │
│ doing film music, and together with Koxbox did music for the European │
│ film "Pusher", a hard edged tale about....guess what! │
│ Trying to devise a new formula for his work, Ian came up with the "One │
│ But Different" CD for Sri Hari. Working on slower and funkier grooves │
│ was a new challenge for him. Ian and Frank E was asked to do the │
│ complete sound track for the independent film, A Sign, a work that │
│ brought collaboration with African musicians, fellow Blueroom artists │
│ Total Eclipse and an Eskimo singer to produce the background for a very │
│ intense story about a big-city youngster caught up in his headspace to │
│ break out. Several hours of music was produced for this film that is │
│ being released by Blueroom. │
│ In 1998 Ian Ion also produced his first ambient album under the name │
│ Former High Priests of And/Or. A project that has been continued in '99 │
     │ with the album "Space 1999". │
│ This year has seen a continuation of Ian's work: music for the Hollywood │
│ film "Bullfighter" starring Willem Dafoe, Jarred Harris, Olivier │
│ Martinez and Michelle Forbes. Ian has produced two pop singles for EMI │
│ and in between travelled across the globe twice to perform live and │
│ gather inspiration for upcoming projects (a favourite pastime for him!) │
│ Currently, Ian is doing live gigs and studio work for Flying Rhino UK │
│ and is preparing tracks for a new project called "The Hive". Also, as │
│ institutions in European electronic music, Ian has been asked, together │
│ with Jean Michel Jarre, by Danish audio and video manufacturer, Bang & │
│ Olufsen to come up with an audio-visual concept for their shops │
     │ world-wide. │
│ As Ian says: "Onwards towards the future, let's see what the stars will │
│ bring, but remain sure that I won't rest on my laurels..." │
     │ │
