Head and shoulders above the abundance of lacklusterly selected
cobbled together compilations, is this amazing offering from David
Harness on San FranÆs under-rated Loveslap! label. A longtime member
of the Bay AreaÆs music scene and a DJ for over 12 years, David has
searched long and hard for the most appropriate tracks for his mix.
Behind The GrooveÆs ôShelter Trackö is a wonderful humble little
dancefloor number, with conventional beats, cultured brass, a violin
which dances and smiles throughout and an urgent reminding bass. Soul
CentralÆs ôSong For Sharmaö is a track anyone would love dedicated to
them, thanks to its heavenly guitar, poking breaks, resplendent bass
and prickly cactus-like synth. Tortured SoulÆs ôHowÆs Your Lifeö
questions happiness from the point of view of an ex-lover still
coming to terms with the situation. Relaxed beats move, sweet yet
sour keys play and still in-love strings reminisce about what might
have been. Arnold Jarvis praises the powers above on ôRising Into
Joyö. The track is an ethereal number, with a spirited flute,
inviting keys and an ever-present shadowing bass. A beautiful example
of soulful, deep and sincere US house from a label who might love
being slapped, despite what their name suggests! --Jon Freer
About the Artist
A legend in the Bay Area house scene since 1990, David has been
responsible for some of the most successful and longest-running DJ
residencies in San Francisco. His status as one of the forefathers of
San Fran club culture has given him world-wide recognition and
allowed him to perform with other legends like Frankie Knuckles, Tony
Humphries, and Little Louie Vega. He has appeared in many articles
and interviews over the years, including Billboard, Paper, Surface,
XLR8R, and URB. And as if that wasn't enough, he has some pretty nice
production credits to his name, including projects for Mary J. Blige,
Luther Vandross, India Arie, 'N'Sync and Donnell Jones.
David chooses music he would want to dance to and plays from the
heart. This is reflected in the devotion his loyal following brings
to the club. Loveslapped by David Harness, volume two of the
"Loveslapped byà" series, is a tribute to that devotion. His musical
selection speaks of love and joy set to intoxicating rhythms;
irresistible by any measure.
Described as "a man who lives, breathes and emanates everything that
is beautiful about deep house music and classic garage", David
Harness is a rising star to watch for in and out of the club. David
was named Billboard Reporter of the Year (Dirty Dozen Awards WMC -
2001), Best House DJ/SF (Clubby Awards - 1997, 1999, 2001), and his
weekly production, "Taboo," was named The Best Party for House Music
by the SF Bay Guardian - 2001.
