│ Founded in '94 by Tsuyoshi Suzuki and John Perloff, Matsuri emerged into │
│ the growing global trance movement with shining examples of high-quality │
│ psychedelic music. After releasing several instant classics from │
│ Transwave, Power Source, Witchcraft, Kailash, and Prana, the label began │
│ to explore new style fusions and abstract broken beats with Digitalis, │
│ Psyburbia, Syrinx, Ju Ju Space Jazz, and Ubar Tmar. The label winded │
│ down with its last few (bizarre) releases in '99 as Tsuyoshi grew │
│ disinterested with the label and began to carry on new exploits in the │
│ high-profile international DJ circuit. Matsuri's death is mourned by │
│ many, as few labels have redefined and innovated so consistently. │

│ Another complete compilation from Matsuri Productions. Wicked twisted │
│ tracks for the lovers of the real psychedelic. This comp includes the │
│ classic from Growling Mad Scientist Jaws, Manmademan with Athalon, Lunar │
│ Asylum with Shadow Five and many more goodies. My favorite track is by │
│ Deflo, Tio Mate, packed with LFO tweaks, many layers of tweaked alien │
│ sounds, mutating bassline and a powerful drivy rhythm section. I can │
│ guarantee you will hear the aliens in this one. │

│ Hard-charging from the get-go, this album is as gorgeous as it is │
│ relentless. There's more to this one than just pounding bass and │
│ arppeggiated acid riffs. Complex percussion, swirly synths and those │
│ gone-but-not-forgotten melodies dominate here. Highlights for me are │
│ Sandman, Slug (Tsuyoshi rides again!) and a stormer from Manmademan. │
│ Arguably, 1997 was psy-trance's finest hour. Let this CD serve as the │
│ time capsule, then. Better grab this one if you can. We may never see │
│ those days again...8/10 │
