 ▌ In the 1950s, while most of the big-band leaders were scaling back   ▐
 ▌ due to the postwar passing of the Swing Era,                         ▐
 ▌ pianist/bandleader/conductor Stan Kenton was gearing up for a long   ▐
 ▌ and prolific career. While he never totally abandoned aspects of     ▐
 ▌ swing, Kenton's approach was influenced by the intricacies of bop,   ▐
 ▌ Afro-Cuban rhythms, and modern classical music. Kenton's take on the ▐
 ▌ big-band sound was more progressive and intellectual, not to mention ▐
 ▌ louder. He also helped launch the careers of trumpeter Maynard       ▐
 ▌ Ferguson and singer Anita O'Day. Originally released in the late     ▐
 ▌ 1960s on Kenton's Creative World label, COMPOSITIONS OF DEE BARTON   ▐
 ▌ highlighted Barton's nervy, cinematic-sounding music. Years later,   ▐
 ▌ in the '70s and '80s, Barton would be best known for his many film   ▐
 ▌ scores, especially for several Clint Eastwood movies."               ▐
