    │release notes.

Get Physical are proud to present the debut full-length album from
Stefan Eichinger, AKA Lopazz, a true landmark in the colourful
musical career of a creatively insatiable and ever-ambitious
multimedia artist. Kook Kook collapses Stefan's many sonic
influences - from contemporary house, techno, and electronica, to
latin, pop and jazz - into a dizzying, unpredictable twelve-tracker
     of unquestionable imagination and power.

     Since 1994 Stefan's been part of the Heidelberg based HD800 team;
he also runs the multimedia label 800achtspur, and is renowned as a
film composer, having written more than 30 scores over the years.
In 2001, he had success with Redagain P when they remixed the Miami
Vice theme; then, in 2003, Lopazz's self-titled EP was released by
Output Recordings, followed by the singles 'Blood' (including a
Tiefschwarz remix) and his first bona fide club hit 'I Need Ya'
(later re-licensed by French fashion label Colette). It's success
led to Lopazz remixing Germany's biggest pop act Xavier Nadoo,
while techno legend Sven Vath snapped up 'I Need Ya' for his Sound
of the Fourth Season mix CD. Stefan's relationship with
Berlin-based Get Physical began when he was commissioned to remix
Chelonis R. Jones' 'I Don't Know'. The label went on to issue
Lopazz's own vocal track 'Migracion', which was subsequently
remixed by Chilean superstars Luciano and Ricardo Vilallobos.
Releases for Compost Black Label, Output and Lasergun followed,
along with remixes for the likes of Isolee, Product 01 and Richard
     Bartz.

Now it's time for Lopazz's first full-length work, twelve tracks
which demonstrate the breadth and depth of the artist's musical
influences and activities, but never lose sight of the dancefloor.
Stefan plays almost all the instruments in these rich musical
tapestries himself, and invariably he favours a full-bodied
     analogue production sound.

The album kicks off with 'Discogs', a juddering funk bomb laced
with heavily treated piano lines and anchored by italo-influenced
rhythms and synthetics. As with so many Lopazz tracks, there's a
sense both of fun and of menace, the child-like melodies up-top
underscored by the moody bassline and disorienting effects down
below. 'We Are' is a less claustrophobic affair, with Stefan's
multitracked vocals recalling the cracked soul of Prince. 'We Are'
highlights Lopazz's talents as a songwriter as well as producer.
'Bottleneck' is a slice of irresistible electro-funk with an
instantly addictive bassline, and tough rhythms to match, while
'Credit Card Receipt' starts in almost lounge-jazz territory,
before more Get Physical Music sinister melody emerges, only to be
overpowered by an almost trancey riff which should make this a
popular selection at the more discerning clubs and afterhours. The
seductive Spanish tongue of Stefan's longtime collaborator Deafny
Moon opens 'Play in My House', countered by a deep bassline, exotic
percussion, organ chords and trembling strings. The R&B-inflected
'The Old Days' is a particular treat, with a spoken vocal from
50-year-old Afro-American jazz musician Jesse Sharps. Then comes
the dark analogue disco of 'Share My Rhythm', which fuses the
groove of straight-up boogie with the obsessive detail of
contemporary microhouse and minimal techno. 'Wet Sweat' is driven
by a hammering, headsdown groove, but once again Lopazz takes us
somewhere we don't expect, adding celestial synth lines, vocals and
rave motifs to the mix..'Wasted Days' is perhaps the album's most
romantic four minutes - an analogue bass, Lopazz's yearning vocal
and interlocking keys combining to create a piece of mesmerising
     electro-pop for the 21st century. The single '2 Fast 4 U' has a
groove that recalls the rubbery punk-funk of the early 80s, with
Deafny and Stefan trading harmonies across Balearic-influenced
guitar licks and blissed-out synths. With 'MP in Love', Kook Kook
draws to an edgy close - sparse rhythms and a dislocated vocal
lament showing Lopazz's ability to move the heart, as well as the
     mind and feet.

Kook Kook is a bitter-sweet carnival of sizzling, wonky funk,
frequently dense and surprising instrumentation and melodies both
life-affirming and unsettling - a uniquely organic and inventive
take on modern dancefloor music and a coherent, rewarding album
that you simply need to hear.

     Enjoy.
