This is for those out there into late 60's soundtracks and easy
listening crate diggers. If you like Barbarella's or Vampyros
Lesbos' kitsch and late 60s analog synths electronic experiments by
the like of Pierre Henry or Jean-Jacques Perrey, that one is for
you. Also, if someone has that CD re-issue with that 8 min. bonus
track, feel free to share...
-- jlg.
The late '60s threw up numerous obscure and bizarre records in
which it was difficult to tell whether the musicians were trying
to exploit psychedelia or emulate it. Les Maledictus Sound's
instrumental album is one of those, and while certainly eclectic,
it's as contrived as it is exotic. Easy listening-friendly
orchestral pop strings dally with Chipmunks-like voices, screaming
psychedelic guitar, actual screams, go-go horns, classical-like
guitar, churchy organ, good-time vaudeville, and assorted odd
drop-ins of weird sounds. It sounds like an appropriate soundtrack
for a period psychploitation movie. The exact same album,
incidentally, was also packaged as a release titled Freak Out
Total, credited to L'Experience 9. The Les Maledictus Sound album
was reissued on CD by Mucho Gusto with the addition of an
eight-minute bonus track, "L'Etrange Monsieur Whinster." --
