Here they go again... Metrophonics, a Düsseldorf based collective
of DJs, musicians and producers hailing straight out of the unique
club & label surroundings. Metrophonics are the Unique Label Heads
DJ Henry Storch and Tino Stoschek on Bass, piano-player and
producer Jürgen Dahmen - member of the Unique-act Trance Groove
and co-founder of german electronic-pop group Propaganda - as well
as Dave Anderson and Peter "Jem" Seifert as executing programmers.
The Metrophonics were founded in 1998 primarily as a
remix-project. Their first rework for High Fidelity┤s "Cream Of
Beats" appeared on Unique┤s "The New Testament Of
Funk"-compilation, "Dope On Plastic Vol. 7" and as a 12┤┤ single
release on premier progressive black music label Afro Art. With
the involvement of legendary UK Jazz DJ Paul Murphy, who
contributed the "Cream Of Beats" b-side, the single received
massive club and radio-feedback not only in the UK and was to be
found on almost every playlist from Pete Isaacs to Russ Allen.
Paul Murphy and Metrophonics teamed up for yet another
co-production as United Eye with "Far East Of The West" which also
came out on Afro Art. Further Metrophonics reworks featured
Charles Wilp "Close Up" (Remix-Album "Michelangelo In Space") and
Past Present Organisation┤s "Itchy Feet", which was the soundtrack
to the "SHARP MiniDisc"-campaign in germany and released as
Metrophonics vs. PPO "Itchy Feet" on unique/warner and sticked to
the top 10 german club charts for eight weeks! Finally,
Metrophonics remixed Luke Vibert & BJ Cole┤s "Swing Lite û
Alright" for "The Spring Collection"-EP on Cooking Vinyl UK.
This heavy Breakbeat hymn "Latin Racer" now is the first own
Metrophonics composition and a single release taken from the
"Unique Club Culture"-compilation. "Latin Racer" features a very
special guest appearance of flute player Mel Collins who has
literally been in the olymp of pop/rock since more than twenty
years and played as tour musician with giants as Pink Floyd and
the Rolling Stones ever since! Herewith the Metrophonics once
again proof their major attempt, which is to convert the
distinctive spirit both of rock┤n┤roll and live music into
Leftfield, New-Breaks and New-Beats dancemusic in general. A
serious piece of wax for heavy dance people!
