The Enchantment is the first-ever studio collaboration between jazz
pianist Chick Corea and banjo virtuoso BΘla Fleck, capturing the
astonishing interplay between these two master musicians. Immensely
popular in their own musical spheres û combined, they have won an
astounding 20 Grammy awards û they have forged a true collaboration
with the release of this album.
The genesis of The Enchantment came when the two discussed the
potential for a duo project. Corea says, ôIt came together quickly. We
just really hit it. We talked a lot and decided to prepare by writing
music first. So BΘla wrote and I wrote. We talked on the phone and
finally got together in Nashville.ö
Fleck recalls, ôIn Nashville, we threw around ideas for songs, and the
next thing I knew we were in Los Angeles recording the album.ö Fleck
elaborated on the experience by stating that the CD is ôone of my
greatest experiences as a musician, playing with my hero, Chick
Corea.ö
Chick returns the compliment by stating, ôItÆs totally unusual to hear
a banjo played that way. BΘla has taken the instrument and the
tradition of the banjo and brought it up as a seriously virtuoso
instrument.ö
ôWe had a blast on The Enchantment which has a totally new kind of
soundö Corea finished.
The 11-track album released on Concord Records, features four
compositions by Corea, including the title track, and six by Fleck.
Also included is an unlikely and uniquely witty cover of the standard
ôBrazil.ö
