Those with any Mancunian connections should already be familiar
with Treva Whateva thanks to his DJ exploits with Mr Scruff at Keep
It Unreal, Djing on Kiss 102 & and working behind the Fat City
Records counter. Treva's first release for Skint's Under 5's label,
the 'Overdrawn & Overdue EP', was a resounding success - finding
favour just about everywhere - now he's back. Now Treva is adding
some northern charm & musical expertise to the Long-Time Female
Friend EP - his second release for Under 5's. Says Treva of his
latest production."I like to keep it chewy. Too many tracks these
days are bland, production line guff - here today gone tomorrow. I
want my tracks to have a bit more substance and feeling, with a
slightly quirky nature." Asked to simplify this explanation, Treva
came back with,"Big fat lo-fi fun." 28 year-old Treva grew up in
Stockport where he met a young Master Scruff and we reckon
comparisons production-wise wouldn't be too wide of the mark. The
pair began doing gigs together (from parties in barns to the
Manumission chill out room in '94) which led Treva onto DJing
opportunities abroad. Recent dates have included a tour through
Denmark (promoting the 'Jack To Phono' compilation which he has
recorded a track for) and also the upcoming Big Chill tour in
Australia & New Zealand this Spring. Other tracks Treva has
released include 'Tum and Waist' on the Freezone 4 compilation
(SSR) and 'Dangerous Disco' on the Off-Centre compilation (Palm
Pictures). And in case you were wondering, Treva's name comes from
Channel 4's early 90's Desmond's TV sit-com, "One of the characters
described someone as "a right Trevor Whatever, he'll do anything" -
that illustrates me perfectly; musically, gigwise, jobwise,
