| Composed between 1981 and 1984, the melodrama La Tentation de |
| Saint-Antoine is my most elaborate piece to date in the field of |
| concrete music. I wanted it to contain the sum total of all my |
| preoccupations and research up until then ; I wanted to use a form |
| stripped of inessentials, and a direct idiom ; and finally I wanted |
| to take as my point of departure a text I have been familiar with since|
| childhood. |
