█ █▓█ produced artists that fire music in new directions. █▓█ █
█ █▓█ Most recently, James Murphy's LCD Soundsystem and DFA █▓█ █
█ █▓█ Records have pushed underground New York indie-dance to █▓█ █
█ █▓█ the very forefront of global consciousness. Ever since █▓█ █
█ █▓█ the Rapture's seminal 'House Of Jealous Lovers' single █▓█ █
█ █▓█ back in 2002, DFA has quite simply been the coolest █▓█ █
█ █▓█ record label on the planet. █▓█ █
█ █▓█ █▓█ █
█ █▓█ Now, as if to further cement their success, Messrs. █▓█ █
█ █▓█ Murphy and LCD Soundsystem stalwart Pat Mahoney are the █▓█ █
█ █▓█ men behind the decks of the thirty-sixth instalment of █▓█ █
█ █▓█ the ever-brilliant Fabriclive series. Sidestepping the █▓█ █
█ █▓█ indie styles they've become so associated with, the duo █▓█ █
█ █▓█ have created a scorching set of the coolest disco that █▓█ █
█ █▓█ should go a long way to reaffirming the credentials of █▓█ █
█ █▓█ an oft derided genre. █▓█ █
█ █▓█ █▓█ █
█ █▓█ 'James was the producer on my old band's first full █▓█ █
█ █▓█ length record,' Mahoney explains, 'And we just totally █▓█ █
█ █▓█ hit it off from the minute we got in the studio █▓█ █
█ █▓█ together and LCD grew out of that. He called me when it █▓█ █
█ █▓█ was time to do it live and we've been together ever █▓█ █
█ █▓█ since.' A well respected New York drummer, it's no █▓█ █
█ █▓█ surprise that Mahoney would find himself behind the LCD █▓█ █
█ █▓█ Soundsystem kit after following Murphy into the realm █▓█ █
█ █▓█ of repetitive beats. 'I was starting to explore dance █▓█ █
█ █▓█ music in general, just rummaging around.' he reveals. █▓█ █
█ █▓█ ôThen James had done 'Losing My Edge' and that was like █▓█ █
█ █▓█ a whole new world for me and I just started, you know, █▓█ █
█ █▓█ looking for records. In thrift stores especially █▓█ █
█ █▓█ because those records, in a lot of stores, aren't worth █▓█ █
█ █▓█ anything but they're worth something to people who are █▓█ █
█ █▓█ aficionados. You can find great jams for like two █▓█ █
█ █▓█ bucks' █▓█ █
█ █▓█ █▓█ █
█ █▓█ It's this crate digging mentality that inspires the █▓█ █
█ █▓█ greatest DJs. There are plenty of lost classics waiting █▓█ █
█ █▓█ to be discovered if you're prepared to look hard enough █▓█ █
█ █▓█ and judging by the Fabriclive track list the twosome █▓█ █
█ █▓█ have done just that. Pulling together some of the very █▓█ █
█ █▓█ best vintage disco records, their set is somewhat out █▓█ █
█ █▓█ of sync with their work as LCD Soundsytem, but is no █▓█ █
█ █▓█ less exciting. 'We had a good idea of what our set is █▓█ █
█ █▓█ like that we play together and what if you went to a █▓█ █
█ █▓█ pub or club where we were playing you'd hear', explains █▓█ █
█ █▓█ Mahoney when asked about how the album came together. █▓█ █
█ █▓█ 'So we just thought of all of our favourite records █▓█ █
█ █▓█ that we've played in the last six months and the things █▓█ █
█ █▓█ that we did on the mix were the things we could get █▓█ █
█ █▓█ cleared.' █▓█ █
█ █▓█ █▓█ █
█ █▓█ With their close friendship and regular DJ appearances, █▓█ █
█ █▓█ it's no wonder the pair's mix is so fluid. With their █▓█ █
█ █▓█ unrivalled taste and well-honed production skills, Pat █▓█ █
█ █▓█ and James have created what is arguably one of the █▓█ █
█ █▓█ finest releases in the Fabriclive canon; quite an █▓█ █
█ █▓█ achievement considering the list of talented DJs that █▓█ █
█ █▓█ have put their names to them in the past. 'We'd been █▓█ █
█ █▓█ playing together so there was already a flow we'd █▓█ █
█ █▓█ established in clubs,' Mahoney reveals. ôThere were █▓█ █
█ █▓█ definitely songs that were both of our musical █▓█ █
█ █▓█ favourites. I'm really excited about the mix because █▓█ █
█ █▓█ everything on there is stuff that we both love.' █▓█ █
