arroyo
a new cd-r subscription series
arroyo (n) - A small, deep gully or channel of an ephemeral
stream. Arroyos usually have relatively flat floors and are
flanked by steep sides consisting of unconsolidated sediments.
They are usually dry except after heavy rainfall.
we were so inspired by the whole of bottling smoke and the
people we met, we decided to pour all that into doing a new
subscription series. and suffice to say, we're beyond stoked
about this one. we've expanded it to 11 CDRs (and you can be
sure there'll be some unannounced bonus surprises again this
time) and cranked up the packaging a notch. "arroyo" is about
impermanence, which is one of the central ideas behind a lot
of this great music... be it through improvisation, one-off
performances, or the sometimes impermanent nature of CDRs
themselves... there's something kind of great in that idea,
and we're hoping to shine a bright stinking light on it with
"arroyo."
as with the first series we did, there will be three mailings
(4 discs in two mailings, 3 in one) between august and
october.
about the packaging... the front & back designs were done by
eden hemming rose and letterpressed in bluish-silver metallic
ink by the always amazing stumptown printers. each one has the
artist name for that particular volume handwritten, and each
with it's own artist-specific insert. and you can be sure we
have more tricks up our sleeves with this.
the series is strictly limited to 100 copies available from
us, and an additional 6 copies will soon be available via echo
curio. those 6 will have special additions to them from the
curians themselves.
