         █░█    This album is a split release of sorts, with the   █░█
         █░█    first half dedicated to Mick Turner's              █░█
         █░█    collaboration with Jim White under the Tren        █░█
         █░█    Brothers moniker, and the second half featuring    █░█
         █░█    Turner in a solo setting. Both musicians are       █░█
         █░█    perhaps best known for their roles in Dirty Three  █░█
         █░█    (though they have been known to take time off to   █░█
         █░█    work with Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Cat Power).    █░█
         █░█    It comes as some surprise to hear the first piece  █░█
         █░█    on the disc, 'Swing Pts 1 & 2', which not only     █░█
         █░█    finds the two in full-on Dirty Three-style         █░█
         █░█    instrumental post rock mode, but even going as     █░█
         █░█    far as to recruit a stand-in violinist, Jessica    █░█
         █░█    Billey who plays a surrogate Warren Ellis.         █░█
         █░█    Predictably, the track sounds pretty marvellous    █░█
         █░█    albeit in a very familiar way. Ensuing tracks are  █░█
         █░█    far more surprising, incorporating drone swells    █░█
         █░█    of harmonica and melodica and tape loops into the  █░█
         █░█    tangle of sophisticated guitar and drums matchups  █░█
         █░█    the duo are famed for. Turner's solo material      █░█
         █░█    tends to sound a tad more psychedelic, calling     █░█
         █░█    more heavily upon the effects and loops, while     █░█
         █░█    also making more melodic use of other              █░█
         █░█    instruments, such as the searing organ on 'The     █░█
         █░█    Beach That Leads You To Shore'. As an epilogue,    █░█
         █░█    Turner's 'Angel No. 6' is a splendid slice of      █░█
         █░█    instrumental music. Like the best of Dirty Three   █░█
         █░█    there's a certain uncomplicated beauty to it all,  █░█
         █░█    sounding at once slow and restrained yet           █░█
         █░█    performed with a very expressive sense of          █░█
         █░█    musicianship.                                      █░█
