Giant Step Records was founded in 1995 as the logical progression
out of its shows and marketing. From the earliest releases by
Nuyorican Soul and Groove Collective to recent releases from Gilles
Peterson, Ultra Nate, Zero 7, Jody Watley, Donnie, Jiva, Sara
Devine and Zap Mama, Giant Step Record's catalog continues to cross
boundaries and defy categorization. With elements of soul, jazz,
and electronica, Giant Step Records reflects co-founder and CEO
Maurice Bernstein's vision of releasing "simply good music."
Giant Step is pleased to present a new take on the classic Jingo.
Inspired by Olatunji, Santana and Candido, the track is a meeting
of some of New York's music heavyweights. It features the
production and drum programming skills of producer legend Ron
Trent, chants of Herbin "Tamango" Van Cayseele a world reknowned
tap dancer and artist, keyboards from Itaal "Big Muff" Shur whose
writing credits include Maxwell's "Ascension" and Santana's
"Smooth", Jonathan Maron of Groove Collective on bass, master
percussionist Daniel Moreno, Groove Collective's Fabio Morgera on
trumpet and "Cookin with Gas" Ray Grappone on trap drum. All coming
together at Kalawang (Creole for salad). The session took place at
Axis Studios in NY in the Spring of 1999. Check out the results and
