More super-limited business from Gerard Hanson (aka Convextion)
under his E.R.P. moniker, pressed up on gorgeous deep burgandy
vinyl courtesy of the Frustrated Funk crew. "Vox Automaton" spans
the a-side and delivers emotive, layered electro of the highest
order - full of those signature melodies and reflective chords
that have characterised his work over the last 12 months. The
production here is immense - analogue, soulful, beautifully
malfunctioning machine music. "Nerve Play" on the flip is more
eerie and unsettling, sounding not unlike vintage Andrea Parker
(circa Ballbreaker) and revolving around squashed strings and
crisp detritus, while closing track "Perfume Persuasion" is just
about the best thing here - all muted sequences and chiming
melodies that are as moving as they are subtle. Brilliant stuff -
