| | J Majik set up the label in 1993 as an outlet | |
| | for his material. Originally he was for | |
| | putting out tracks on the Metalheadz label, | |
| | which is Goldie's label. He set up a small | |
| | independent so he could put out tracks | |
| | immediately, so they could get onto the | |
| | streets, and to build up his own stable. | |
| | | |
| | Over the last couple of years, artists like | |
| | John B, Photek, Dillinja, Goldie, Optical - | |
| | the main players in the drum and bass scene - | |
| | have released tracks on the label. This | |
| | roster has recently expanded to include Total | |
| | Science, Future Bound, System 3, Danny J, and | |
| | Everything But The Girl. | |
| | | |
| | It's drum and bass, but goes across the whole | |
| | spectrum of the music. They don't put out | |
| | just dancefloor tracks, they do home | |
| | listening music, there's a bit there for | |
| | everyone. There's a lot of different | |
| | influences. At the moment there's a disco | |
| | house influence and a lot more vocals in | |
| | their output, whereas a couple of years ago | |
| | it was more of a techno vibe. Infrared try to | |
| | stay versatile as a label, keeping options | |
| | open to do as many things as possible, put | |
| | stuff out from artists who are doing | |
| | different things, and not get pidgeon-holed | |
| | by the drum and bass scene. | |
| | | |
| | The first release was 'Sunray' by J Majik and | |
| | Goldie. J worked on the track, with vocals | |
| | from a session singer. Goldie did a mix, and | |
| | the track did well. At the time it was more | |
| | of a ragga scene in drum and bass, and the | |
| | tune was more musical. Like the stuff that | |
| | Bukem and Peshay were doing. | |
| | | |
| | Infrared then released 'World of Music' from | |
| | Peshay, and a track from Lemon D and Dego | |
| | from 4Hero. Infrared has since put out | |
| | countless EP's, 12"s and white labels. It was | |
| | really a label for J's personal stuff, but in | |
| | the last two years, the label's created a | |
| | much stronger identity. It's becoming | |
| | established now as one of the main | |
| | labels on the scene. | |
