║▓│ Dave Preston is back with another great mix this week for his │▓║
║▓│ bi-weekly Saturday Proton Radio show, Rhythmaculture (01/25/2003). │▓║
║▓│ │▓║
║▓│ Dave started his DJing career while attending University of Florida │▓║
║▓│ in the summer of 1997. Being from South Florida, he had a small │▓║
║▓│ background in house music from the clubs on South Beach. It was │▓║
║▓│ during his second year in Gainesville, however, that he started │▓║
║▓│ going to Simons, a local late-night club with a reputation for │▓║
║▓│ bringing in some of the best talent stateside. Inspired by the │▓║
║▓│ sounds of regulars at the club, such as John Digweed, Nick Warren, │▓║
║▓│ and Danny Tenaglia, he soon enough began spinning at house parties │▓║
║▓│ and some of the smaller local clubs. │▓║
║▓│ │▓║
║▓│ Over the past four years, his style has evolved into a unique mix of │▓║
║▓│ elements taken from house, trance, techno, breaks, and downtempo. In │▓║
║▓│ March of 2002, he landed a residency at Gainesville's Vibe │▓║
║▓│ Nightclub, and also became responsible for their guest DJ bookings. │▓║
║▓│ Since then, he has had the opportunity to open for and play │▓║
║▓│ alongside such well known artists as Ashley Casselle, Sean Cusick, │▓║
║▓│ Austin Leeds, Paolo Mojo, Jonathan Lisle, Infusion, Three, Phil K, │▓║
║▓│ PQM, Steve Porter, Saeed and Palash, and James Zabiela, to name just │▓║
║▓│ a few. He has also had the opportunity to play at the last 2 Gemini │▓║
║▓│ parties at Simons, playing on the roof alongside Deep Dish in 2001 │▓║
║▓│ and opening for Danny Howells in 2002. │▓║
║▓│ │▓║
║▓│ In recent months he has been working on several production projects. │▓║
║▓│ In late 2001 he collaborated with Orlando producer Barry Robb (aka │▓║
║▓│ Sphere) on The Bubble Gum Track, and has since remixed the track on │▓║
║▓│ his own. The original has been received well so far, with strong │▓║
║▓│ support coming from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo and Danny Howells │▓║
║▓│ and has recently been licensed to Phil K's Balance 04 mix CD. │▓║
║▓│ │▓║
║▓│ Another project that he has been working on is the I Love Music │▓║
║▓│ show. Him and longtime Simons resident and good friend Joe C. played │▓║
║▓│ together one night at Simons and their musical styles meshed so well │▓║
║▓│ that they decided to play together on a consistent basis. They did │▓║
║▓│ the night at Simons on Fridays for about a year and built a strong │▓║
║▓│ following, and recently moved over to Vibe after a change in │▓║
║▓│ management at Simons. They are currently in contact with several │▓║
║▓│ promoters and clubs in an effort to expand the "I Love Music" │▓║
║▓│ concept around the US and internationally in the upcoming year. They │▓║
║▓│ are also hard at work developing www.forwardthinkingmusic.com to │▓║
║▓│ both support the night and provide information about other │▓║
║▓│ like-minded DJs and producers. The site has been growing and │▓║
║▓│ recieving alot of positive attention since its launch in October of │▓║
║▓│ 2002, and will continue to develop over the coming year. │▓║
