The band is the project of songwriter and former Rosavelt singer-guitarist Kevin
Grasha and a collection of musicians now scattered across the U.S.
They include:
the GC5Æs Doug McKean, songwriter Chris Allen,
and Keith Hanna of Shurman.
Low Sun Fire is the AmpraysÆ second album.
Bliss & Its Consequences was released in 2001.
For reasons other than unchecked paranoia, Low Sun Fire was recorded in a bomb
shelter at Cleveland, OhioÆs Bombshack studio. The contained, ricocheting sound
seemed to fit with the sometimes claustrophobic songs. Mike McDonald (the
Revelers, Viva Caramel, Doug McKean and the Stuntmen) presided over the sessions
-- most of which were held in 2005 and 2006. Mixing commenced in the summer of
2006.
Random fact #1: Grasha, a journalist, has interviewed
Kim Deal of the Breeders, Barack Obama, at least three convicted murderers, and
a man who auctioned on eBay appearances of a cup filled with water that Elvis
allegedly drank in the 1970s.
Random fact #2: Grasha underwent an emergency craniectomy several years ago and
appears to have retained all motor skills.
Random fact #3: Drummer Miles Loretta is the cousin of actor-comedian Hal
Sparks.
