Release Notes:
West of The Moon' is the companion disc to this
summers' earlier release, 'East Of The Sun'. 'Moon'
features the same backing band as before; Drummer
Barrett Martin produced the sessions, with Peter
Buck and Scott McCaughey on electric and acoustic
guitars, Kevin Hudson on electric and upright bass,
and Dave Carter and Craig Flory on trumpet and
saxophones, respectively. This time however, the
spotlight is on the women who are the featured
vocalists. They include Adama, a British/Nigerian
soul singer from London, Gina Sala, a featured
vocalist with Cirque Du Soleil and the Black Cat
Orchestra, and Jessy Greene, a former member of Los
Angeles cult favorites The Geraldine Fibbers. A few
of the men from 'EOTS' remain however, with John
Wesley Harding, Scott McCaughey, and Coleman Barks
each contributing a song or two. 'West Of The Moon'
has more of an old school R&B approach, with touches
of Northern Soul courtesy of Adama, as well as some
classic songwriting, courtesy of Jessy Greene's
mournful Americana. Additionally, there is an
mystical element, highlighted by Sufi poet Coleman
Barks' two spoken word pieces, and also by Gina
Sala's fiery Eastern-infused vocals. Famed Iraqi
oudist Rahim Alhaj also makes another guest
appearance. Tuatara has become a classic American
band of songwriters, whose current flight was
rerouted from Memphis to Marrakech.
