Release Notes:
Founded in a magic barn somewhere in the far east
of Holland late 2005. Four soul brothers started
playing loud; with the same attitude, a lot of love
for the same style of rock 'n roll and a lack of
respect for any convention, feeling the need to
spread their own Gospel. The band doesn't know any
other way than to play their type of rock. That
style is a result of their love for music and the
urge to escape everyday life and just have a
swingin' good timeà
Sing- and danceman Lawrence Mul, guitarist Wout
Kemkens, drummer Hooky and bass player Clemens Mul
serve their relentless rock & roll raw, swingin',
energetic and loud. Lyrics about life, death,
women, love, religion, sodomy and the damage these
pleasures cause are empowered by psychedelic and
vulgar guitar licks and pumpin' bass & drums. Their
live shows are intense and physical and you know,
these boys aren't afraid to improvise or lose their
minds: looseàalways! I can't really place a tag on
these guys, but you can sense their love for
sixties and seventies music, that's for sure.
The road to stardom started by playing a live
broadcasted radio show at the 3FM-studios, as a
result of that show the Honkies recorded some songs
with Eric Corton (Dutch radio host) and Appie
(master of sound), which are on the new record by
the way, the other tunes on their debut album are
recorded by Torre Florim at the Magic Barn, in
Barlo of course. After that they played a notorious
show at the Noorderslag Festival, which got them a
record deal with Sonic Rendezvous and a booking
deal with Rock&roll Highschool! Many clubshows,
festivals and support acts followed, the boys
played shows with Mondo Generator, Heavy Trash,
Peter Pan Speedrock, Wolfmother, The Datsuns,
Status Quo, The Spades, Green Hornet and Orange
Sunshine to name a few. Some cool dutch festivals
and clubs they rocked are Zwarte Cross, Motel
Mozaique, Metropolis, ZXZW, Paaspop, Appelpop,
Tivoli, Vera, Paradiso, Melkweg, Willemeen,
Burgerweeshuis and of course De Loods!
By playing all of these live shows in bars, clubs
and at festivals the band found out that more
people digged 'The Honkies' approach to music, to
these people and to you we present: 'THE GOSPEL OF
THE BLOODY HONKIES'. But the release of this
smashing (!) debut album won't be enough: The
Honkies will continue to spread their gospel, by
doing what they do best: playing live.
